How to Care for and Maintain Your Pizza Oven

Care keeps your oven going for years

A well-maintained pizza oven cooks better and lasts much longer — important in India’s humid climate. Here’s how to look after yours.

Let it cool, then clean

Always let the oven cool completely before cleaning. The high heat actually burns off much of the food residue, making cleaning easier.

Clean the cooking stone the right way

  • Let the high heat burn off residue, then brush off any debris once cool.
  • Never use soap or detergent on the stone — it’s porous and will absorb it. Just brush or scrape it clean.
  • For stubborn bits, scrape gently; stains are normal and don’t affect cooking.

Wipe down the exterior

Once cool, wipe the outer body to remove grease and dust. Keep it clean so it looks good and lasts.

Clear out ash (wood/charcoal models)

Remove ash after each use, but only when completely cold. Leftover ash holds moisture (causing rust) and blocks airflow.

Check gas fittings (gas models)

Periodically inspect the hose, regulator, and connections for wear, and do a soapy-water leak test. Replace any worn fittings promptly.

Prevent rust (especially in the monsoon)

  • Make sure the oven is fully dry before covering it.
  • Store in a sheltered spot and use a weatherproof cover.
  • Keep it off damp ground if stored outdoors.

Store the stone carefully

If you remove the cooking stone for storage, keep it dry and handle it carefully — stones can crack if dropped or exposed to sudden temperature changes.

Cover and store well

A good cover protects your oven from rain, dust, and sun. Store it (and disconnect the gas cylinder) safely when not in use for a while, especially through the monsoon.
